This week we take a look at the vintage 80’s Avia 880. Many sneakerheads of today may not even be familiar with the brand, Avia. When it comes to basketball, today’s most relevant brands are, Adidas, Under Armour, Reebok, Converse and of course Nike. During its release in 1988, the Avia 880 was considered one of the most advanced basketball sneakers on the market. Worn by professional athletes such as Clyde Drexler and Scottie Pippen, the Avia 880 was a staple basketball sneaker in the late 80s. Boston Celtic's center, Robert Parish, favored this silhouette's supportive qualities. If Kyrie had been in Boston during the 80's he may have even laced up a pair! Retailing for $89.99, this price tag was only $10 less than the groundbreaking Air Jordan 3. The Avia 880 was instrumental in the advancement of basketball footwear.
Complex included these vintage Avia sneakers in the 80 greatest sneakers of the 80s as well the top 25 big man sneakers of all time! The shoe features a full grain leather upper, stabilizer straps at the forefoot, midfoot, and ankle. A molded polyurethane insole and rubber outsole complete this classic look. The 2015 resale value is ridiculous due to the scarcity of this model. If you’re lucky enough to find a pair in decent condition, you’d better jump on it.
