Partnering with eBay to Clean Heron Preston's Personal Shoes
RESHOEVN8R x eBay — Breathing New Life into Heron Preston's Rare Collection
What happens when you pair the most trusted sneaker marketplace with the most trusted shoe care company?
You don't want to miss this.
We teamed up with eBay to bring you From the Collection: Heron Preston, a series of unique sneaker drops from the internationally renowned designer’s personal collection. Featuring more than 50 pairs of unique, rare pairs of shoes, we were tasked with breathing new life into the nearly 40 pairs that came in “pre-loved” condition.
This is by far the biggest shoe cleaning project we’ve ever participated in, and we had a lot of fun doing it. Preston has one of the most eclectic collections out there, and we had the privilege of working on some extremely rare pairs, some that we’ve never seen before!
Out of the 40 sneakers we had the pleasure of reviving, 5 pairs stood out from the rest. Here’s a closer look at some of our favorite pairs featured in From the Collection: Heron Preston.
Top 5 Shoes — From The Collection: Heron Preston
1. Adidas Yeezy Boost 750 OG (2015)
At first glance, this pair looks like every other Adidas Yeezy Boost 750…but their story makes them even better. Before Heron Preston started his namesake fashion label, he spent time on the Yeezy design team at Adidas. The Yeezy Boost 750 was the first Yeezy shoe to launch under the Adidas umbrella, and Preston’s hand was in it from the beginning.
The pair you see here is an OG pair of the Yeezy Boost 750s that was given to Preston by Kanye West himself. How cool is that? We got to clean a pair of sneaker history! More than anything, this shoe symbolizes the death of the Nike Yeezy and the rebirth of the Yeezy brand as a part of what we now know as a wildly successful branch of the Adidas family.
No shade to the Nike Air Yeezy 2 (more on that later), but cleaning one of the first Adidas Yeezy sneakers to exist was such an underrated part of our partnership with eBay.
2. Nike Air Foamposite One NRG Galaxy (2012)
Are Foams dead? We can’t remember the last time Nike brought out a new Foamposite, but cleaning the Galaxy Foams from Preston’s personal collection brought us back to the glory days of Nike Basketball and the Foamposite.
Each year during the NBA All-Star week Nike releases special themed shoes for each signature line. Nike went with a Galaxy theme for the 2012 All-Star game and produced some absolutely amazing shoes. The collection was headlined by shoes such as the Big Bang Lebron 9, Galaxy Kobe 7, and of course, the Galaxy Foamposite.
This was the height of Nike Basketball, and the Galaxy collection of shoes hit the resale market at astronomical prices. Nike has since retroed the Big Bang Lebron 9, but not the Galaxy Foams. Interestingly, this was the first Foamposite that Preston ever owned. Not a bad pair to be your first!
3. Nike Air Max Heron Preston Nike By You
Preston teamed up with Nike to celebrate Air Max day in style by launching the Nike Air Max Heron Preston Nike By You. The shoe itself fused Preston’s first ever Air Max sneaker, the Air Max 95, with one of Nike’s more polarizing shoes, the Air Max 720.
Two different pairs of Heron Preston Nike By You shoes are available through From The Collection: Heron Preston. The first is a sample pair of the 720/95 made in Preston’s size 13. The other is a bright pink Air Max 95 in size 8. Both shoes feature uppers made from the classic Air Max bubble, a nod to the theme “Air Max Everywhere.”
eBay said the collection would be unique, and these two pairs of Air Max are proof of that!
4. Nike Air Yeezy 2 NRG Solar Red (2012)
Before the Adidas Yeezy was, the Nike Air Yeezy 2 had already taken the sneaker world by storm. Few pairs of Nike shoes are worth more than the Yeezy 2 on the resale market. Between the glow-in-the-dark outsole, fancy aglets, and the premium dustbag, the Yeezy 2 from Nike was (and still is) a major hit.
Now that we’re 10 years removed from the launch of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 and well into the Adidas Yeezy era, it's easy to forget just how popular this pair was. The fact that an internationally renowned designer such as Preston found the shoe worthy of his awesome collection is just another point in favor of the Yeezy 2.
5. Air Jordan 3 True Blue (2001)
Raise your hand if the Air Jordan 3 True Blue from 2001 is older than you! The True Blue Jordan 3 was one of the first to feature a colorway other than the Chicago Bulls colors. The Air Jordan 3 was also the first Jordan shoe to feature the iconic Jumpman logo (as seen on the tongue).
This 2001 retro from Preston’s collection is similar to the OG pair from 1988, except for his pair features the Jumpman on the back tab instead of the Nike Air.
This 20-year-old pair of kicks is in good condition, all things considered. But if you’re looking to purchase this one, don’t plan on wearing it. The midsole has already started to crack and crumble, so this pair is one you should display.
Reviving 40 Shoes — From The Collection: Heron Preston
You've seen our favorites, now it's time to share a little bit more about the cleaning and restoration process. Being tasked with breathing new life into so many sneakers was a challenge, but one that we welcomed. If there ever was a time to put our money where our mouth is, this was it.
What does it say about us that eBay trusted us to revive some of Heron Preston's rarest sneakers? We'll let you figure that one out.
We worked really hard to ensure each "pre-loved" pair was ready to hit the auction block and go to a new home. The process was meticulous, rigorous, but satisfying.
Each pair was given our VIP treatment, starting with a deep clean with our Sneaker Cleaning Solution and premium shoe care brushes. Depending on the condition and wear, some pairs required more attention than others, but this is to be expected with a collection this vast and unique.
Not only did we clean the shoes, but we made sure they smelled great, too. Each pair was hit with our Sneaker Deodorizer to make sure they smell fresh for their new owners.
Pick a favorite
From the Collection: Heron Preston features over 50 shoes, so it was hard to narrow it down to just 5 favorites. You could ask any RESHOEVN8R employee, and they’d give you 5 different shoes than the ones listed above.
Opportunities to “raid” a designer's closet are few and far between, so you’d better act fast if you want a chance at owning one of Preston’s personal pairs!
