This year, Nike opened a voting system and allowed fans to cast their polls. The winner of the contest would make a comeback and retro. After a month of votes, the Atmos Air Max 1 took the top spot and will come back for Air Max Day in 2017. Yes, these are the ones with the Tiffany blue Swoosh and elephant print.
Nike also retroed the Air Max 1 ‘Safari’ in February. The shoes featured the same colorway and theme but switched up the material. Instead of mesh, the 2016 version got a fuzzy material. The gum outsole went translucent. For those anticipating the Atmos Air Maxes, don’t be surprised to see the materials get altered.
The HTM collaborations are often highly sought and eexclusive. Nike chose to incorporate their three figures into this year’s festivities. Each person redsigned a classic. Tinker created the Air Max 90 Ultra Superfly T. Mark worked on the Air Max Ultra M and Hiroshi got the Air Max LD-Zero H.
Across the planet, Nike opened up pop-up shops and displays. Los Angeles took over the old Undefeated space on La Brea and allowed fans to explore.
