Air Jordan Officially Unveils the XXX Model

Posted by Steven Quach on

After taking an official leave with the XX3 (Jordan Brand went with another direction to produce basketball shoes like the Air Jordan 2009, Air Jordan 2010, Air Jordan 2011, and Air Jordan 2012), Jordan Brand revived their signature line with the Jordan XX8. For the fans who were used to the retro line, these shoes didn’t satisfy their thirst.

For those looking for casual shoes, these were not the ones. From a basketball stand point, the XX8s were great. They brought innovation and performance back to the Jumpman. The Jordan XX9 was also another great basketball shoe but it took time for fans to get accustomed to.

The tag line for the newest Jordan model is “The Frontier of Flight”and what better place to unveil that shoe than the planetarium? On Thursday, January 14, 2016, Jordan Brand unveiled the Jordan XXX at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago.

The shoes feature a midtop silhouette, "XXX" graphic along the heel, and a knit collar for a unique look. The upper consists of a mix of woven, knit, and printer materials.

Always known for their oversized Jumpman branding, they took a new approach by placing the logo on the toe in a fashionable yet subtle way.

For the traction and outsole, Jordan Brand used FlightSpeed like the XX9 and upgraded the herringbone pattern to service top-tier players like Russell Westbrook and Jimmy Butler.

The unveiling with Mark Smith and Tinker Hatfield can be seen here. The first colorway will release on February 12, right before the NBA All-Star game.
