This NBA season is pretty much highlighted by three things. The Golden State Warriors’ dominance, the dysfunctional of the Cleveland Cavaliers and the retirement of Kobe Bryant.
While Derek Jeter began the farewell tour trend that comes with gifts from rivals and opponents, Kobe is changing it up. It’s like the exchanging of football jerseys as players do in the NFL after games.
For those that Kobe respects, he’ll hand over a pair of Nike Kobe XI with an autograph and inscription.
The curious media began to wonder and finally asked Kobe to see what it takes to get a pair from the Mamba. Bryant responded with "Generally, guys that got the cojones to ask, I give it to them."
Not only has Kobe laced up friends and peers from around the league, other athletes like Larry Fitzgerald and Alexander Ovechkin. We almost forgot to mention, you pretty much have to be a superstar or have access to the locker rooms.
Well actually, there's one other way. At the end of the game against Denver, Kobe had sat out most of the second half. While on the bench, he communicated with some nearby fans and allowed them the opportunity to earn the shoes he was wearing. By correctly guessing Kobe's pet dog's name, the fans were able to snag a pair of game used player editions. Hopefully, if you ever get the chance, don't get caught doing this:
With less than two weeks left for the Black Mamba, its almost time that he hangs them up for good; it's truly the end of an era.
